Q. How do I use the Level 2 Standard Cloud Fraction
A. The AIRS Level 2 cloud fraction is reported for up to two cloud
formations within each of the 9 AIRS spots associated with the AMSU FOV.
Name: CldFrcStd
Dimension: 3x3x2
(two formations, in each of the 9 AIRS spots within the AMSU FOV)
There is also an error: CldFrcStdErr of dimension 3x3x2.
The values of CldFrcStd and CldFrcStdErr range between 0 and 1.
The total cloud fraction in each AIRS spot is the sum of the two cloud
fractions within that spot (i.e., the two layers). The first layer is
higher in the atmosphere than the second layer (if there is a second
layer).
The average cloud fraction in the AMSU FOV is the average of the 9
total cloud fractions of the AIRS spots.
